ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
BODY IN A RIVER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taumarunui, Last Night. A message from the houseboat says the river-boat passengers yesterday saw the dead body of a man. face down, hung up on logs in the river about ten miles below the house-boat. The body was high and dry on the Raetihi side. The boat being full of tourists, the body was not taken on board. It was dressed in a woollen singlet, grey trousers, tan boots, and wore a belt with a pouch. No one is reported missing, but the police are investigating. WIFE ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. Auckland, Jan. 6. Minnie Sinclair, aged 37, was admitted to hospital with a bullet wound in her back. It is stated that her husband had a revolver in bis hand intending to shot a dog, when it was accidentally discharged, the bullet striking his wife. The injury is not serious. KILLED BY BUMPING BALL. Gore, Jan. 6. Horace Payne, aged 36, a railway surfaceman, while playing cricket last evening at Athol, was struck on the left temple by a bumping ball bowled by his brother. Shqrtlv afterwards, in great pain, he was motored to Gore for medical aid but died when nearing the town. He leaves a widow and tjvo children.
