CHAMPIONSHIPS OVER, AMERICANS WIN MEN’S EVENTS. DAVIS CUI? PLAYERS MEET AGAIN. By Tekgraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The New Zealand lawn tennis championship meeting was concluded to-day, the American players annexing both the singles and the doubles. The semi-finals and the final of the men’s singles were played on the Davis Cup court this morning, and resulted as follows:—Tilden {America) defeated N. Peach (N.SAVJ, "6—l, 6—3, 3—6, 6—3; Washburn (America) defeated O’Hara Wood (Australia), 6—4, 4 —6, 6 —3. In the final, Tilden defeated Washburn, 6—o, 6—l, 4—6, 4—6, 6—3. Washburn extended Tilden fully before he won the match, which went the full five sets. Washburn’s invariable steadiness and his ability to take most of what Tilden put over was the principal feature of the game. In the final of the doubles championship Tilden and Johnston (America) defeated Brookes and Patterson (Australia), 6—4, 6—l, 6—B, 6—4. This match was marked by brilliant tennis, which, however, was not as hard as that §een during the Davis Cup. Brookes and Patterson showed ‘better form in comparison with their opponents, flnd gave them a hard fight throughout. The title of lady champion of New Zealand was won by Miss Nancy Curtis (Petone), who early' in the tournament showed good form when she defeated Mrs. S. C. Hodges (Remuera), last year’s champion. Mrs. S. C. Hodges and Miss Marjorie MacFarlane (Remuera), winners of the ladies’ championship doubles last year, were again successful. They had a fairly easy win against Mrs. J. Marchbanks and Mrs. J. C. Peacock (Wellington). The final of the junior championship was won by Miss A. Howe (Wellington), who had a walk-over in the final owing to the illness of Miss Marjorie Potter (Auckland). The boys’ championship singles resulted in a win for J. T. Seay (Timaru), who defeated G. N. F. Goldie (Wellington), last year’s champion. DETAILED RESULTS. MEN’S SINGLES. Semi-finals.—W. T. Tilden (America) beat N. Pencil (New South Wales), 6—l, 6—3, 3 —6, 6—3; W. The match between New South Wales and New Zealand lawn tennis teams was commenced to-day, and will be continued to-morrow. Four singles matches and three doubles matches have been played, the visitors winning all except two of the singles. There were some good contests, particularly that between Dr. N. Gregg (New South AA T ales) and G. G. Aitken (Christchurch), which lasted three hours. Results of the play were as follow: — Dr. N. Gregg beat G. G. Aitken, 7—9, I—g, 7—5; S. 11.
