THE WEATHER.
PERIOD OF REAL SUMMER. INDICATIONS OF RAIN The very favorable weather conditions experienced in Taranaki contributed, to a highly successful holiday period, the days of bright sunshine and clear skies being extremely welcome to the thousands of holiday-makers. Weather records show that atmospheric conditions have been exceptionally hot, and the temperature has ranged from 59 to 77 degrees. The latter figure was registered on Christmas Eve, December 24, while on New Year’s Eve and January 1 and 2 the heat was also very pronounced. Yesterday at 9 a.m. the temperature was 70 degrees. In the afternoon there was a haay atmosphere, with indications of bush fires in the country districts. A strong wind last night provided a cool evening, and the conditions were at times somewhat rough, indicative of a change in temperature. Following are the observations taken at 9 a.m. daily for the past fortnight: Dec. 22, 60deg.; 23, 65; 24, 77; 25, 70; 26, 70; 27, 66; 28, 63; 29, 59; 30, 75; 31, 70; January 1, 70; 2, 74; 3, 73; 4, 70. The weather forecast issued last night is: “Present indications are for moderate to strong south-east winds, with cool and unsettled conditions generally, and rain in many parts, particularly in the northern and east coast districts. The barometer will rise further in the south, but is falling temporarily in the far jjorth.” j
