THE TOURIST SEASON.
HEAVY BOOKING REPORTED. A RECORD PREDICTED. The summer tourists’ season promises to be one of the best yet experienced in the history of the country. The Auckland' branch of Cook’s Tourist Agency reports that there has been very heavy booking by people outside the Dominion who contemplate travelling through the country, and visiting the different tourist resorts. Manj’ Australians expect to tour New Zealand immediately after the New Year holidays, and many more would have come across but for the New South Wales shipping strike. Fully a hundred residents of Sydney had booked passages by the Maheno’ their intention being to witness the Davis Cup finals in Auckland, and then to proceed to various other centres on holiday bent. However, owing to this vessel and the Niagara being held up in Sydney, these people had to cancel their tours.
The booking returns to date are considerably in excess of what they were in 1019, and present indications are that a new record in tourist traffic will be established this season.
