A syndicate has been formed at Invercargill to further interest in aviation. ' The syndicate is working in conjunction with the New Zealand Aero Transport Company, at-Timaru. A hanger is to be built and it is anticipated that the company will have three aeroplances in commission early in 1921.
Buyers of lamb report that they are operating for the Wellington butchers at tenpence, and that when the freezing works open their price will probably be 9}d to 9y 2 d (says a Wanganui paper) The size and quality is better than usual, but it must be remembered that we are three weeks later.
As showing the tendency of local bodies to increasingly value up-to-date machinery for road-making purposes, and the general trend of the times to purchase first-class English manufactures, it is interesting to learn that a recent special meeting of the Waitotara County Council unanimously voted to purchase a Leyland four-ton dump truck Many other ‘councils throughout New Zealand have also recently purchased these very efficient machines. “I believe that many of our own soldiers spread such stories when on leave in England,” remarked Mr W. A Banks, chairman of the North Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union, when the question of misrepresentation being made to immigrants was being discussed. “Yes, said Mr W. W. Mulholland, “they were, expected to spin a good yarn and some of them did it!” Mr. George Street stated that while in Wellington recently he had conversed with some immigrants, who told him .that before they left England they were shown a photograph of a bungalow, and were told that they would get such a bungalow and 50 acres of land.
