FATAL ACCIDENT.

YOUNG TOMAN KILLED RESULT OF MOTOR COLLISION. A motor accident which resulted in the death of a young woman, Mi&s Ruby M. Coates, aged 22, a school teacher, of Omata, occurred in Gill. Street, New. Plymouth, just before eleven o'clock on Friday night, when a motor car driven by John* Burras, motor mechanic, and a motor cycle and side-chair driven -by Rupert Grey, of Omata, collided. The side-car was occupied by Miss Coates, and a boy named Francis Grey rode on the carrier of the cycle. The car had come out of Egmont Street and had proceeded across the Brougham Street intersection, while the cycle was coming in the opposite direction, having crossed Currie Street, and the impart Occurred opposite the garage entrance of Newton King, Ltd. Miss Coates was thrown about twenty feet on to the roadway, sustaining serious injuries, from wlHeh she died in hospital on Saturday morning Rupert Grey is also an inmate of the hospital suffering from injuries and shock, while his younger brother, Francis, was also affected by the shock. The driver of the car, Barras, and another occupant, L. Monteath, escaped unhurt. The cycle and side-chair was almost completely wrecked, and the front axle of the motor car was’berit on the left side, and the mudguard torn. An inquest concerning the death of Miss' Coates was opened yesterday morning before Mr. T. Furlong, J.P., and the following jury:—T. W. Rolston (foreman), P. J. O’Brien, M. D. Julian, F. Lonsdale, J. West, and Thomas Young. Senior-Sergt. McCrorie led the evidence for the police. Mr. F E. Wilson watched proceedings on behalf of the car driver. After formal evidence of identification had been taken an adjournment was made till next Friday, owing to the illness of Grey. FATALITY AT AUCKLAND. STRATFORD RESIDENT KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Jan. 1. Richard Leach, a visitor from Stratford, was run over by a taxi cab driven by William Sparks this morning, and he died in hospital.
