VAST CEMETERY.

HISTORIC VERDUN TO-DAY. Br Ttlegnph.—Prm Ann.—Copyright. Paris, Dec. 28. What King Geotge visits Verdun shortly he will inspect the great necropolis containing 40 huge tombs, representing 40 battles round Verdun, each containing unidentified remains collected on the battlefield. At each corner of the necropolis a Catholic chapel, a Protestant church, a Jewish synagogue or Mussalman mosque is foing erected. It is proposed to transfer the unidentified bodies now lying in thousands in the various cemeteries around the town to the famous bill of Douamont, whose slopes will be a vast cemetery, enabling a visitor at ft glance to appreciate the magnitude of the struggle.—Aus.-N.Z.
