The match between Wellington and Taranakl, in which the visitors had obtained such a commanding lead, was concluded at Bayly Park, llawera, yesterday morning, ill fine weaker, in the presence of a fair attendance, and resulted In a comfortable win for the visitors by 10 wickets. Wellington were without the services of Aldersley and Longhurst, who had to return home, while Taranaki were without 'Hughes and Penny. ! Taranaki, with eight wickets down for 124, and requiring .8 runs to save an innings deifeat, resumed with the not out men, Osborne I (4) and McCarthy (7), Henderson and Berry (taking up the attack.. ' J Osborne opened cautiously, being content with well placed singles off each bowler, but McCarthy, by vigorous play, being particularly severe on anything to leg, scored a couple off; Henderson's first over, and drove Berry to the boundary in successive overs. He soon placed an innings defeat beyond doubt. Henderson was keeping a good length, only eight being scored off four overs, two being imaldens, but McCarthy, hltbing Berry to leg for 4 and 3, caused a double change, Borrows and Morton coming on at 156. Osborne scored a single, and then McCarthy landed another fine boundary, but waa clean bowled next ball, the score reading: 161—0—33. , The ' partnership added o very useful 47. Monteatb followed, but did not stay long. After scoring a single from Morton, who was driven by Osborne- for a couple, he softly spooned one from Borrows to Hughes. The ' innings closed for 166—10 —1. Osborne carried his bat for a well played 17.

Requiring 35 to win, Ronaldson and Bremner opened for Wellington, to the bowling of McCarthy and Beechey. Runs cape slowly, the first three overs only producing five, four of which were byes. Then Ronaldson opened out and drove Beechey twice In succession to the boundary, following with a bit for three the same over. He also scored a couple off McCarthy's nert over. With 18 up Palmer replaced Beechey, and, bowling a good length, kept runs down, only live being scored off his two overs, whilst McCarthy bowled a maiden. Next over Ronaldson hoisted 30 by' lifting McCarthy well over the fence for 6, and also sent the next ball to the boundary, a single next ball giving him the winning hit. Bremner, who had had little of the bowling, scored a single off the last ball, and Wellington therefore won the match by 10 wickets and 2 runs. I Details :~
