BARMAN FLN T ED FOR BETTING. Wellington, Dec. 29. Vincent S. Stanislaus, a barman, was charged in the Magistrate's Court today with using the bar at the new Commercial Hotel as a common gaming house. He pleaded guilty. The polite stated that books and papers found indicated that Stanislaus was not in the booking business in a large way. Ho was not of the class that they wanted an extreme exampleniade of. He was fined £25, or two months' imprisonment.
DENTAL NURSES' SCHEME. Wellington, Dec 291 A request that they should sign f<r. Picker-ill's petition opposing the appointment of dental nurses with two yeari)' training to take charge of the treatment of school children and urging that women be trained only as nurses came before tfie Technical School teachers' conference to-day. The following motion was,-passed: ''This meeting supports the efforts of Dr. Pickerill to obtain trained and qualified dental treatment for school children, but objects to any movement which will prevent the appointment of qualified women dental surgeons."
