Sydney Fairbairn, a member of the Travellers' Club, has retucfled from an arduous journey in Central Africa through the Congo State and Uganda. After much searching he found pigmy land. The average height of the pigmies was 45 inches, and their houses were 52 inches high. He entered by crawling. The pigmiea are much fairer and lighter colored than the average tribes. The men § were beautifully made, the woinen with tiny feet, and their faces gnome-like. At the outset they were snared, especially by his camera; later they danced ail night long log-fire >mees.
Mr. Fairbairn travelled hundreds of miles guided by savages with a system of signalling by tom-toms, sending" elaborate messages by beating them.
