FIRES.

CHEMICAL WORKS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Dec. 28. A fire was discovered at 1.30 a.m. in Kempthorne, Pro6ser's chemical works at Burnside. Firemen were despatched from the city, but. the fire had a good hold. The top storey in the building was used in the manufacture of manuy, api the outbreak was confined to this building. After fighting the flames for three hours the firemen were successful in suppressing them, a splendid save being effected. A fireman, Charles Ingram, of South Dunedin sub-station, was injured about the head and removed to the hospital. The damage is estimated at under £IOOO.
