A RECORD MEETING. The Taranaki Jockey Club's Christmas carnival, which concluded yesterday, must easily rank as the most successful yet held by the Club, for the attendance, though not up to the previous day's record, was very large, and the totalizator investments amounted to £37,615, as compared with £34,873 for tho same day last year, making a total of £81,962 for the meeting, as compared with £87,017 last Christmas, an increase of £14,945 for the meeting, and constituting a record for the club.

The rain of the early mornng, while it may possibly have kept some people from a distance from attending, merely freshened up the turf, and the weather remaining fine throughout the day save for a slight shower prior to the hurdle race, an enjoyable day was spent by all Fields were large in the, majority of cases, and the finishes were close. The winners were hard to find, the first favorite only pacing the post in the van twice during the day. The totalisator q taff again had a busy day, but the organisation, jinder the able management of Mr. Rea, was good, and it was the public's own fault if any money was shut out.

The starting by Mr. Vincent was first class, whilst Mr, Cameron hoisted the numbers with promptitude. The field in the New Plymouth Handicap was the smallest of the day, a quartette competing for the 350 sovs. offered, Vermillion getting the big end. The open sprint went to the Aucklander.
