SPORTS AT ELTHAM.
ATHLETIC AND CYCLING EVENTS. A successful sports meeting was held at Taumata Park, Eltham, yesterday, under the auspices of the Eltham Athletic and Cycle Club. The meeting was the first held since the recent amalgamation of the separate athletic and cycling clubs into one body, and the splendid sum of £IOO was offered in prize money, The attendance of the public was good.
All the events attracted excellent entries, and the running and cycling events were of a high order. The cycling events attracted a splendid field of competitors, and some very fine races were witnessed. In all these events, however, several of the competitors came to the ground owing to collisions and the slippery nature of the track, but although some of the competitors had narrow escapes none were seriously hurt.
The Eltham Pipe Band played selections throughout the day and also played for the Scottish dancing events, which were a popular feature of the programme. Mr. H. Nuttall carried out the duties of secretary in a very creditable manner.
