STRATFORD.

VARANAKI DAILY NEW& BTRATFORD AGENCY. Advertisements and items of nerts for publication should be left at the office of the local representative, \V. J. Wilson, next Union Bank.

December 27.

'There have been no sports fixtures in Stratford during the holidays and many of the public have taken the opportunity of getting away for a few days. New Plymouth has attracted a considerable number and each day hundreds have availed themselves of the opportunity to visit the, Ngaere Gardens, while others have selected the mountain reserve for picnics.

Christmas Eve was a particularly busy day in Stratford, and all the shops were crowded. T c greatest congestion, however, was in the toy shops, and judging by the number of toys sold the children should have had a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas. The patients at the Stratford hospital were well cared for .during the festive reason. Generous donations of turkeys, Christmas cakes, lamb, fruit and money were received from the public, and Father Christmas paid his usual visit to the children's ward, well laden with toys for the little ones. On Christmas morning the chairman of the board (Mr. C. D. Sole) visited the hospital and wished all the inmates and staff the compliments of the season. The hospital at the present time is not crowded and is remarkably free from serious eases, so all the inmates were enabled to enjoy the festive season. The Wards were all tastefully decorated with flowers and shrubs and presented a beautiful appearance.

At Holy Trinity Church the usual Christmas services were held and were well attended.

Christmas will soon be here and the problem of seleoting-Christmas presents is already engaging the attention of most people. For the children, what more desirable presents can be found than the Christmas annuals? Included amongst H. J. Hopkins' large stock of annuals are the following, which are specially suitable for presentation purposes: Chums, Boys' Own, Girls' Own, Australasian Boys and Girls, Empire Annual, Wonder Book, etc. Call and inspect at the shop Broadway, Stratford.

Redeem the long-standing promise and have the photograph taken at McAllister's Studio. We are always ready, day or night; no delay; no waiting either in taking or finishing, at this studio. Ring 25, Stratford.
