DAVIS CUP.
FIRST MATCHES TO-DAY,
TEAMS AND THE DRAW. ONLY TWO ON EACH SIDE. 1 By Telegraph.—Presa Association.
| Auckland, Last Night. Tlie declaration of the teams tu represent Australasia and America in the Davis Cup competition final, which opens to-morrow at the Domain, was made this morning. Norman Brookes, the Australasian captain, announced that he and G. L. Patterson would be the defenders throughout, while Hardy, of America, declared that America would stand or fall by Tilden and Johnston in both singles and doubles. These announcements were made by the captains this raorriinj* at the Grand Hotel to Mr. Hugh Thomson, hon. secretary of 'the Lawn Tennis Association. Mr. Thomson thereupon, in the presence of the captains and the teams, made the draw to decide the order of matches, and the result was:—-
Tuesday.—Brookes v. Tilden; Patterson v. Johnston.
Thursday.—Brookes and Patterson v. Tilden and Johnston,
Friday.—Brookes v. Johnston; Patterson v. Tilden. ,
The Davis Cup management has decided to ask the spectators to observe five seconds' silence prior to the • commencement of the Davis Cup tournament as a tribute to the memory of the late Anthony Wilding.
