SOCIETY TO-DAY.
FIVE EVTLS AFFLfCT IT.
MESSAGE FROM THE POPE,
Br Teicirrnrti.—J'rcss Assn —Copyright. Received Dee. 20, 5.5 p.m. Rome, Dee. 25.
The Pope has issued a . manifesto in which he declares: "The war is not over, and if men are still fighting among themselves, the moral damage is greater than the material. Five evils afflict present society. First, a lack of discipline: second, hatred among brothers; third, a craving for pleasures and enjoyment: fourth, a refusal to work; and fifth a loss of faith in God,"
The Pope adds: ••The nations and the peoples will endeavor in vain to reeonstruet if they forget what is written in the Holy books, that reconstruction is impossible without Cod's co-ooeration. It is a mission of duty of the Pope to remind society that 1 shall devote all inv efforts for a return to a belief in the ptosjwl."—Aus.-X.Z. Cable
