THE FASHION PLATES.
AN EXCELLENT COMBINATION. A holiday audience of large dimensions greeted -The Fashion Plates" at ( the Empire Theatre last night. "The | fashion Plates" proved to be n great ; combination, qualified in every respect to command the approval of the public as a brilliant array of artistic entertainers. The company is specially strong in comedy, a department, which was well in evidence in the excellent bill submitted, and the audience manifested keen appreciation by hearty laughter and vociferous applause. Sparkling ensembles and witty numbers by "individual members were the order'of the evening, one of the most popular being "-Make a Note of That," in which several topical verses of more than passing interest from a local standpoint wfx introduced. In Mr. George Titclicner, ''The Fashion Plates'' possess a very line comedian who essays many portrayals throughout the evening and with great success. Mr Titchener ranks as one of the be-t comedians who have appeared locally. Mr. Renn Millar, the popular basso who has made several visits to this district, was enthusiastically received, and his full baritone voice was I never heard to greater advantage than ! last evening in "The Rinsrers," "Wimmin' Oh, Wimmin!" and "Childhood Days." Mr. Sydney Kingsley is the tenor of'the party, and his singing of "Sweet Early , Violets" and "On Miami Shore," the lat- | ter with a harmonised chorus, were among the successes of the evening. Mr. W. B. Keaney is another .rood comedian, and in addition to much diverting work in various sketches, was much appreciated in "Signora" and "Do I? Yes, I do." The male members of "The Fashion Plates" constitute a strong all-round quartette. Miss I.enore Graham is a comedienne of parts. Dashing and Uvaeioiis and exhibiting a remarkable fund of energy, Miss Graham is one of the most prominent performers, her work being stamped with finish gained in the school of experience. Her"waitress number. "Sarah, Come Over Here," proved one of the hits of the bill. Miss Graham also deserves a word of eommendatiun for excellent results achieved as the producer of the show. Miss Miriam Kutner (soprano) and Miss Wv'n Faulknor (contralto) appeared to advantage m sulo items, and each also par- ( ticjpated with success in the many cum- < pany numbers which are a feature of the ' performance presented bv "The Fashion 'J Piatc-i." Miss I{ ( ,s : , Walton, the able i accompanist of the parly, is a pianist of c distinction and . played'the various ac- 1 companiments sympathetically and ar- J tistically. Mi-s Walton is also a Cleveland charming exponent or songs at the piano, her numbers last night meeting with such favor that a double encore was ! enthusiastically demanded and aracious-| l.v conceded. Miss Walton san<- "Don't | ion Mind ft Honey," "Somebody's Com- i mir to Tea" and "Naughty Little V\Vd " ■>! several decidedly humorous sketches submitted,. "The Love Tax." "The dimtake Opera Quartette" and "The T>i,]ice ,'ourt" are deserving of special mention, ivhile me excellent fooling of Mr. Titdieiier as the audience to a speech deliv-u-ed by Mr. Kingsley was hilarious w uifiiigh to keep the audienc,. in the the- a ijro in loud and continuous merriment si 'Hie Fashion Plates" will appear each t light this week, and on Thursday a S( •omplete change of programme will be „ iresenled.
