DEATH FROM BURNS.
TRAGIC OCCURRENCE IX NELSON DISTRICT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Xelson, Dec. 20. A sad burning fatality occurred at Maptia early on Christmas morning. Two daughters of Mr. Charles Jliggs were camping for pleasure in a loft near the dwelling-house, and during tlie night the building .caught fire, presumably by means of crackers exploding. The girl's had difficulty in escaping, being grievously burned.
The elder girl, Eupiiemia, aged fifteen, died at midday on Saturday, and the younger girl, Constance, aged twelve, lies in a precarious condition, but with :i fipjiting chance of recovery.
Mr. TTiggs came from Te Kuiti. and was a most popular and respected settler. Quite a gloom has been east over the whole district.
