Mr. .Justice Cooper is spending the holidays at Eltham. He will return to Auckland about January 10. Mr. Justice Edwards intends retiring from the. Supreme Court Pencil next month, Mr. Justice Cooper in February, and Mr. Justice Chapman in -March.

Mr. R. D. Kirkpalrick, Associate of the Canterbury SchooT of Engineering, and since 1014 instructor in enginecing to the New Plymouth Technical College, has accepted the appointment of chief instructor in mechanical engineering at the Wellington Technical College. Mr. Kirkpatrick studied for five and a half yiirs at Canterbury College, taking both mechanical and civil engineering, and Ims been most successful in building up a strong engineering department at New Plymouth. '" The death occurred at Raliotu on Tuesday of Mrs. Ellen Mnrpliv. relict of the late Mr, T. Murphy of Wurea. She was 95 years of age, a native of Limerick, Ireland, and came to New Zealand 43 years ago, '2"> years being spent at Warea. She leaves a family of four daughters, namely, Aliv. Quickenden (Raliotu), Mrs. Barrett (Oaonui), Mrs. Carey (Pnkcanihe), and Mrs. P. S. Riley (Pihamiv). Mrs. Riordon, of Christchurch, and Mrs. Power, of Kaponga, are sisters,' and Mr. E, Long, of Manaia, a brother.
