FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE.
POVERTY BAY AGREEMENT, (ONE COMPANY CONCERNED By Telegraph— Press Asan.—Copyilght, Oisborne,, Last Night A conference today between the directors of the Poverty Bay Farmers* Meat Co. and the representatives of the employees arrived at a settlement in the freezing works dispute, and the men will return to work to-morrow. The matter was amicably discussed, and the terms of the settlement are mutually satisfactory. The. company conceded the men's request that the .minimum the lowest paid men should receive should be la-9d and 6d bonus. One section received an increase of a half-penny on a previous request granted, making their wages 2s 3d; in another section where 2s Cd wag asked, 2s fid was fixed; pieceworkers agreed to 18 per cent bonus rates retrospective to December 1. The agreement stand 3 till August 31, 1821. Other local freezing companies are not affected. The agreement means that about one hundred and twenty men Will start to-morrow morning at the Poverty Bay Co.'s works at Waipaoa.
