Received Dec. 23, 10.55 p.m. Sydney, Dec. 23 There is no likelihood of the stewards' strike being settled. The coastal branch of the Merchant Service Guild passed a motion expressing sympathy with the stewards. The latter_stato that the fight is going to be one to a finish. 'Possibly the whole of tho waterside unions will be involved. The owners are also determined, proof of which is the Huddart-Pavker Company's cancelling of the sailing of jj the Riverina for Auckland to-day, ji although the vessel could have sailed?) .before the men's notice expired. Other companies are having vessels towed from the wharves- to an anchorage, where {hey will remain until the dispute is settled. The Manuka sailed for Wellington at noon with the New South Wales tejinis team and passengers. Almost all! the stewards who sailed in the Manuka, are New Zealanders. The Union Company is still hopeful of dispatching the Wheno for Auckland on Friday.—Aus. 'and N.Z. Cable Assn. Sydney, Dec. 23. Intending passengers by the Riverina have been notified to be in readiness as it is intended to dispatch the vessel for Auckland to-day. Helbonrn?, Dec 23. The crew of the Westralin has been paid off and the vessel added to the idle list.' The Kaitangata on her a>rival on Thursday, the Paloona and Kaituna are also expected to be put out of commission.
