Dr, Toaer, a well-known cricketer, was shot dead at the residence of H. Si Mort. The latter telephoned Dr. Tozer yesterday morning to come and see his Wife, who had been ill for some days. Dr. Tozer had hardly entered the sick room wyen shots were heard, and, on the dbor being forced, Dr. Tozer Was found dead with a bullet through his brain, and Mrs. Mort shot in the left breast. Sydney, Dec. 22. The Tozer shooting case is a complete mystery. Though it occurred early in the day the police were not informed until late at night. Mrs. Mbrt is Unconscious and unable to give details. Dr. Tozer was to have captained the New South Wales cricket team against Queensland on New Year's Day. FULLER DETAILS. POISON AS WELL AS SHOTS. JEALOUSY SUGGESTED MOTIVE. Received Dec. 22, 11.50 p.m. Sydney, Dee. 22. Details of the Lindfleld tragedy show that Mrs. Mort, besides having a bullet wound, is suffering from the effects of poison. Tt how appears that Tozer was for some tiihe cloSeted in the drawing room with Mrs Mort, and about nodn a lady companion to the latter, hearing a noise resembling shots in the room went to the door, and found it locked. She asked if anything was wrong and Mrs, Mort ajiswered "No." About five o'clock in the afternoon Mrs. Mort oalled from her bedroom for a glass of water to be left outside the door. Later, when the door was forced, Mrs. Mort was found unconscious and Tozer was sitting dead on a couch with a revolver on his thigh. The police mention an apparent jealousy as a motive.—Aus!-N.Z.
