THEN TO BUY- ESSENTIALS. 'A REMINDER TO HOUSEWIVES. Indications of a real Qhristma* like old times multiply as the town fills with visitors and the shops become busier, while glorious summer weather is assisting the holiday spirit. Devon Street presented a bright scene yesterday, the town being filled by shoppers, and the sun streamed on a crowd in bright summer clothes. A glance into many shops disclosed proprietors and assistants actively attending to numbers of people, with their lists of Christmas' wants. There are few places of business that d-j not participate in Christmas trade in some form or other, so that the activity was general. Shopping ceases to-morrow night (Christmas Eve). Grocery premises which will open all day to-day, as well as having a late night to-morrow, do not resume till Wednesday. New Year's Day will be observed on t'-e Saturday, and Monday (January 3) will also be a holiday. Meat supply shops cloee at 8 o'clock to-morrow niglit and will be open on 'Monday and Tuesday only till 9 a.m., Ordinary hours being resumed on Wed* nesday. At New Year a full holiday will be observed on January 1 and 3, th« usual times being commenced on Tue* day. Bread delivery will cease at tin conclusion of Friday's round till Tuea* day morning.
