DISCOVERIES IN PALESTINE. I By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. London, Dec. 10. _ The Palestine Department of Antiquities is zealously investigating and safeguarding sacred monuments. It recentlymade a notable discovery ol tlie remain's of two «arly Christian churches in the gardens of Gothsemane, one dating from the 13th century, and .beneath this were the remains of what is probably the oldest church iu Palestine, dating back to the 4th century. A portion of the walls, columns, apses and original mosaic floor are intact The Franciscans have been entrusted with the erection of a new church on the site in order to preserve the remains, which reach the rocks associated with the agony of Christ. Another discovery recorded is a giant's footpirnt, a yard long, embedded in sandstone at Ascalon.—Times.
