London, Dec. 21. One of the biggest fights vet reported between troops and volunteers took place at Mullanshowan, in the Tipperary mountains.

A prolonged engagement took place, following upon an ambush. It is believed the volunteers have ten "dead, Desides others wounded and prisoners. It is doubtful how many soldiers were killed. A strong force of militarv with ambulances baa been despatched 'to the scene.

The military raided one of the Aran Islands, off Galway, and arrested seven wanted men, and fatally shot two others while they were attempting to escape.

DE VALERA FOR IRELAND. INVITATION TO MR. LLOYD GEORGE. Received Dec. 21, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 20. The Irish Vigilance Association announce that De Valera is coming to Ireland to preside over a special session, under Government safe conduct, and in return, Sinn Feiners are prepared to eecure the safe conduct of Mr. Lloyd George if he wished to proceed to Ireland to confer with De Valera.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. Received Dec. 21, 8.5 p.m. London, Dec. 20. It is announced in Irish circles that de Valera is on board the Aquitania, which is expected at Southampton today. R is believed he is disguised as a stoker and is going to Paris to be ready for any conference that mav be arranged to settle the Irish trouble.
