HOLIDAY CROWDS.
MORE NOW THAN LAST YEAR Judging by bookings of neeommod'a Hon, record crowds may b/j expected ii New Plymouth during the holidays. Inquiries made by a Daily News reporter yesterday elicited the information that the demand for rooms at hotels
and boarding houses this seajon ia much keener than last year. The licensee of a leading New Plymouth hotel said that ho had refused a large number of applications, and if there had been room the number of guests would have easily been increased by between fifty and seventy persons in hla house alone. This is typical of the general demand. He pointed out that a great drawback of ,recent years has been the shortage of domestic help, which" is becoming more and more acute.
Railway bookings indicate that a large number of people are availing themselves of excursion rates. Passengers for North by steamer have not been as numerous as* might have been expected, but the complement will probably be much bigger in this week's trips.
