ATTRACTIONS IN TARANAKI.

1 VARIED AMUSEMENTS. Pleasure seekers in Taranaki during the Christmas and New Year holidays will be provided with a wide choice of attractions.

Races at New Plymouth pn Monday and Tuesday, December 27 and 28, will afford the sporting fraternity a good outing, and the popularity of the Taranaki Jockey Club's Christmas meeting is demonstrated by the increasing attendances which are recorded each year. This meeting will be followed by the Stratford Club's annual fixture, \yhidi takes place on January 1 and ;l. Special train facilities have been mapped out for the convenience of patrons of both gatherings. On the 27th instant the Eltbam Cycling and Athletic Clulb'a monster sports gathering at Taumata Park should be well attended, a comprehensive programme of events having been drawn up. Picnic and tourist parties will have a choice of the seafront or a mountain trip, and both are very popular among residents of the province, as well as visitors from other parts. Accommodation at the North Egmont Hostelry has been fully booked up for the Christmas and New Year period, and the weeks following. On the Ngamotn beach a picnic under the auspices of the seaside committee will be held, and this has always proved a popular function annually. A picnic resort much in favor is to be found at Ngaere Hardens, and the proprietors (Messrs. Lester Bros.') have made special provision for visitors during the holiday season. " Cricketers will be specially interested in a number of matches which have been arranged. On the 2flth and 30th instant a Wellington eleven will play Taranaki representatives at Hawera. On January 3 the North v. South match will be played at Hawera, and on January 7 and S Wanganui will meet Taranaki at New Plymouth. On Christmas Day at New Plymouth a returned soldiers' team will meet a town eleven.
