OBITUARY.
MRS. ANN KIRKWOOD. The liand of death has removed an* other old resident of Stratford, Mrs. Ann Kirkwood having passed away peacefully in her 'sleep at some time during Thursday night. On Thursday, she was about as usual, and the family received a great shock \vh«o she was found dead in bed yesterday morning. The late Mrs. Kirkwood was 70 years of age, and was the widow of the late Mr. William Kirkwood. She was a'native of Birr, King's County, Ireland, and came to Australia with her bro* thers, joining the gold rush to Ballarafc and Bendigo. She came over to the West Coast of New Zealand in the* days of the gold rushes, and was a, well-known resident of Greymou'th and Hokitika. She was married during hee residence on the West Coast. Mr. Kirk* wood afterwards had licensed houses jn Wellington, Wangamii, Christchurch and Hawke's Bay. The family have been ia Stratford for about 28 years, and for the greater part of that period have owned the County Hotels The late Mrs. Kirkwood is survived by a family of ten: Misses Ann and Agnes, Messrs. W. P., Thomas, H. G., E. J. and Frank (of Stratford); Lieut-Colonel J< G. Kirkwood (now resident in British East Africa), Mrs. P. Thomson (Invercargill), and Mrs. A. Coleman (Strati ford).
