TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. A meeting of the Taranakl Jockey Club Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan (chairman), J. McLeod, O. A. Standlsh, B. H, Chaney, W. P. Nlcoll, M. King, and W. T. Hnokham.

Apologies for absence were received from Mesrs. F, Orbell, L. B. Webster, and A. Alexander.

The chairman reported on arrangements made In regard to loose box accommodation, stating that ample provision had now been made for both loose box and paddock accommodation for the forthcoming Christmas meeting. The New riymouth Motor Cycle Club sent In an application for the use of the course on or about March 5, and the Taranakl Trotting Club also applied for the use of the course on February 5. Permission was granted in both cases.

The Citizens' Band wrote accepting engagement for the Christinas meeting, and thanking the chib for Its generous donation towards the band funds.

It was decided to write to the Northern Steamship Company asking if a more suitalle time-table could be arranged for Christmas week. It was pointed out that the accommodation would be very much availed of by the sporting 'public and others if a slight alteration made In the running of the Itarawa during the Christmas holidays.

Four new members were elected to the club and one resignation was accepted. Mr. A. S. Thompson was appointed clerk of the course.

Accounts amounting to £293 llis 3d were passed for payment.

TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Dannevirke races to-day. Stratford weights are due on Friday. Taranaki acceptances close on Friday, at 9 p.m.

Snub's breakdown is said to be a serious affair.

A. Tricklebank will probably ride Crosswords at Dannevirke.

Sunart, who won at Woodvllle, has come into favor for the Auckland Cup.

F. Christmas Is taking Arrowamith, Going Dp, and Counter Attack to Auckland this week. Manlahera has a lot of pace on the Hat, and should ue handy at the finish of the Raubint Welter at Dannevirke,

R. S. Bagby rode three winners at Woodrile, and H. Ryder and .1. Barry were boa successful twice.

TARANAKI TROTTING CLUB. MEETING ON FEBRUARY 5. At a meeting of the Taranaki Trotting Club held at the office of the secretary (Mr. D. le C. Morgan) on Monday evening, it was decided to hold the second meeting on February 5 as already arranged, and to apply to the Tiivanaki Jockey Club for the use of its course. The programme, as approved hy tho committee, is the same as that of last year, with Hie exception of one or two minor alterations. There are six races, four harness, and two saddle. Tie Maiden Handicap Trot (harness), of 25 sovs., and a trophy, distance iy. miles, is open to horses that have not won a race at the time of starting; the handicapping is for 4.1 or better, and hoppled pacers are to concede trotters 7scc start. Tho big harness race Is the Taranakl Trotting Club Cup, in which the stakes are 100 sovs. 20 sovs., and Id sovs. The distance is two miles, and horses are to be handicapped to do 4mlu !>Bsec, or better. Tl:o other harness races are the Inglewood Handicap (of 40 sovs., miles), and the Okato Handicap (of 50 sovs., 1 mile). The handicapping In the former Is for 3.15 or .better, and In the latter It Is for 230 or better (last year 2.2«). The saddle racea are the Waltara Handicap (of 35 sovs., 1% miles), for unhoppled trotters only, and the Farmers' Plate (of 20 sovs., J % miles). The handicap will be based on 3.3T1 (last year 3.47), and 4.15 respectively. Last year there were 19 acceptors in the farmers' event, and It la anticipated that this year there will be at least equally keen rivalry. The torses imust be the bona fide property of a. farmer and Tidden by amateur riders. At the meeting of the committee on Monday evening, the resignation of Mr. W. T. Nicoil was accepted with regret. Mr. H. .7. S. Brookman was appointed to fill the vacancy. Messrs. Ferry and Faber were elected members.
