A REVOLUTIONARY PROPOSAL.
TO ALTER SERVICE RULES.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received Dec. 14, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 13.
There is great perturbation in the tennis world at tho so-called revolutionary proposal to alter the service rule. At to-day's annual meeting of the Association, it was proposed to require the server to have both feet behind tho line, or if one was raised It must be grounded before either foot entered the court. Critics said the alteration would favor a tame service at the expense of the modern Australian and American service, therefore they condemned as unsportsmanlike any attempt to make the change.
It was known beforehand thai: America was hostile, but the attitude of he Dominion delegates was not disclosed at he meeting. Eventually it was declfled to postpone decision the otter nations had been consulted. The meelng resolved that if a server missed a ball when attempting to serve, It should count as a'fault.—Atis.-N.Z. Cable Assn,
AN IMPORTANT MOTION. Received Dec. 14, 8.15 p.im. London, Dec. 13. The Tennis Association considered an important motion to empower- the International Federation to modify the laws of the game on condition that the official decisive text of the laws be in the English language, and the alterations be made unanimously at a general meeting of the federation. The motion was referred back to the council after a lengthy discussion. It was pointed out that America had already altered the laws, and that chaos would ensue unless uniformity was made possible.
The opponents of the motion claimed the privilege to make laws. It was the English Association's birthright. The American precedent was valueless, as America had not joined the federation.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
