TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
STUDENTS' CONCERT. A break-up concert was given by the pupils of the New Plymouth Technical College at the Workers' Hall last night, before a large audience. Very creditable work was done by the performers, and their efforts resulted in an enjoyable evening being provided for all. The programme was of a varied nature. It included the trial scenp from "The Merchant of Venice", and a scene from ''Julius Caesar". The elocutionary work in these items was particularly good. The song and dance "Bubbles" was effectively staged by Miss V. Laurent and chorus, and another itehi of this class was "Tickle Toe", which was nicely given by Miss F, Soffe and chorus. A clarionette solo by F. Loveridge was very popular.
The second portion of the programme wa9 taken up by a scene at a country fair, and this provided an opportunity for introducing some excellent items. The first year students participated in a song and dance "Come to the Fair", and this was followed by a monologue by J. Robinson, the piece chosen being from C. J. Dennis's work "The Sentimental Bloke". The "Bloke's" tale of his experiences at a Shakespearian, play was capably given by the elocutionist, and lie was very heartily encored. A clog dance by Misses Hazel Andrews, F. Knapman and F. Sofl'e was cleverly executed, and they were called on for a re-appearance. The engineering students were responsible for a weild-look-ing village band, which, however, produced some tunes, and was the source of much merriment.
The proceeds of the entertainment will go to the school prize fund. The school breaks up on Friday, when the distribution of prizes will 'take place.
