TIMBER WORKERS' STRIKE,

The timber workers at the Ohutu box mill have not returned to work, and there is no prospect of them doing so at present, as the owners insist on the resumption of operations before their demand is considered, a course which the men resent.

AERIAL MAIL SERVICE,

Wellington, Dec. 13,

A start will be made with aerial mail services early in January. . The first trip will be between L'bristchurch and Tiniaru, and a round trip from Auckland to Dai-gaviUe,' Whangarei, and back. A seaplane will be used lor the latter,

The charge will b;> about od per letter. The services will be experimental, and eonlirmation will depend on the support given.

BUTTER EQUALISATION FUND.

Mr. Masscy states tliat the extension of the butter equalisation fund to cover farm made butter is impracticable.! It was not graded, and as most of it was sold direct to the storekeepers the Government could not check the deliveries or the quality.

CONSECRATION OF A BISHOP. Dunedin, Dee. 1,4. An event, unique in the history of the Roman Catholic Church of New Zealand, was celebrated in St. Joseph's Cathedral yesterday, -when two priests were formally . consecrated to the heirarohy. These were Or. Whyte (Bishop of Dimidlu), and the Very Rev. Dr. I.iston (Coadjutor-Bishop of Auckland). There was n brilliant arrav of church dignitaries and the Cathedral was thronged. The consecration was performed bv Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington (Metropolitan), assisted by Dr. Carroll (Bishop of Lismoro, New South Wales), and Dr. Clear,- (Bishop of Auckland)! There wore, also present in the sanctuary: Dr. (I'Shea (Coadjuior-Archbidiop of" Wellington), Dr. Brodic (Bishop of. Christchurch), and other clergy. The sermon of the occasion was preached bv Archbishop O'Hhea. In (he evening the newly-consecrated Bishop of Dunedin presided on the throne and an address of welcome was presented to them.
