WAITARA.

(From Our Own' Correspondent.) ! Dec. 8. At the Presbyterian Church on Simday evening last, a memorial to the men killed at the war was unveiled by the Mayor. consisted of a plain brass tablet, being attached to the western wall, and it was covered with the Union •lack for the occasion. An appropriate service was held for the occasion by Mr. {jould, and consisted of special singing, itrcluding the solo by Mr. W. J. Smith, "Abide with Me," the duet "Rock of I Ages" by Mrs. Blair and Miss Hingley, a ; quartette "What Are These," by Mrs. P. J. Allen, Miss Parry, Messrs. P Appleby and W. J. Smith, and appropriate hymns. After a verse of the National Anthem had been sung, the Mayor said it was a duty of the -living to place on record their sense of gratitude to those who had fought and given their lives. The tablet bears the following words:—"To the memory of men from this church who made the supreme sacrifice in' the Great War, 1014-18: Private L. Baker, Private D. Purdie, Trooper, J. T. Graham, Private I. G. C. Simpson, Priyate J. Purdie, Private T. E. Stewart." , The Druids' Lodge held their half-year-ly meeting on Monday evoking last, when District President Bro. J. C. Blanchard was present, to install the officers for the ensuing half-year. Aspirants to office were very keen, and the following were returned:—A.D., Bro. H. B. Limour; Y.A., Bro. P. Feek: Secretary, G. Bird: Treasurer, Bro. A. J. Canton; J.G., A. J. Whitmore; 0.G.. Bro. G. 11. Millar; -.■yD.B.'a, liros. Grimer and S. Laing; VA. Bards, Bros. R. Jenkins and J. V. Sofife; Minute Secretary, Bro. ,T. W. Laing; Auditor, Bro. IC. Beckbessinger. From the Hamilton paper I notice that Mr. Fred Prosser's son lias been doing I»ig things on the running track. He is classed a 6 the best distance performer in the district, and in the 440 yards championship he lopped a second off the ! standing record, and he also holds the {honor of champion of the BSO yards, one | wile, and steeplechase events.
