PERSONAL.

Mr. William Dallas, a former member of the Otago Land Board, has just died' at Balclntha,' aged 84 years. The death has occurred in Christchurch of Mr. A. J. Barge, formerly a well-known member of the staff of the New Zealand Referee, and a prominent cricketer and footballer in his younger days. At yesterday's meeting of the Inglewood County Council, Mr. J. H. Lyon wrote resigning his position as councillor for the north riding, owing to his removal from the district. He expressed regret at severing hia connection with the members and staff, with all of whom he had had most cordial relations. On tiie motion of the chairman and Cr. Cameron it was resolved to grant Cr. Lyon leave of absence until next meeting.

The Rev. George Watson has arrived in New Zeaknd. He will take up work as assistant curate at AH Saints', Palmerston North. The Rev. J. B. Reed, 8.A., has also arrived from the. Old Country, and will become vicar of the Wanganui parochial district. He was ordained in 1906, and until recently was vicar of Chirbury, in the Herefordshire diocese. The Rev. B. R. White, A.R.C., will shortly arrive from Home to serve as vicar of the Rongotea parochial district. He was formerly assistant curate of Holy Trinity, East Finchley, ia the London diocese.

Mr. Douglas Noake, who died recently at Te Arolia, was the son of the late Colonel Noake, who lived at Epsom a few years ago. Douglas Noake was one of the best horsemen in New Zealand. His youth was spent- in the Wanganui and Patea districts, where his father was stationed at the time. The colonel was well known in his day as one of the best cavalry riders this side of the line, and a man of gallant bearing.
