THE NEW BONUS.

i< j MAIN QUESTION COMES FIRST. By Tslegrapli.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 8. When the Arbitration Court met today, Mr. Pry or, on behalf of the employers, suggested that the Court should give judgment on the main bonus issue before dealing with the individual applications of unions. j Mr. agreed, but said the ; unions now believed they had discovered the cause of the division of opinion. The position was that the original period selected as a basis of computation of increase in the cost of living included the epidemic period, when prices rose excessively high. That meant that workers did not get proper allowance for the real increase in costs, Mr. Justice Stringer agreed to put the view before the Statistician, and if necessary to discuss it. He would inform the parties generally that it had been agreed that it was desirable to announce the main judgment before dealing with individual claims.
