WATERSIDE DISPUTE.

cbAL CARGO HELD UP. is Telegraph.—P'ess Association Christchurch, Last Night. A dispute was caused at Lyttelton today through a demand by the men that they be paid 2d an hour extra for unloading the Ngatoro's coal cargo that had been used as ballast while the vessel made three trips carrying live stock. A meeting of the Local Disputes Committee was called to consider the matter, but following the procedure adopted at Wellington the committee refused to adjudicate except on the understanding that the men would commence work beforehand. The men would not agree to this proposal, however, with the result that no work was done on the vessel. Hopes are entertained that- the dispute will be settled in the morning.
