DAVIS CUP CONTEST. PROSPECTS OF AUSTRALASIA, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Sydney, Dec. 3. The Herald critic, discussing the Davis Cup representatives, says tt.it in view of Brooke's defeat by Peach In Ihe Victorian semi-finals, O'Hara Wood will .most probably be Auitralasia's second string in the singles. Patterson has showed improving play throughout the Victorian contests, again proving himself our leading singles player. His present form should stand him well at Auckland. The Sun critic thinks Tatterson good enougt to win against both Americans, and as regards doubles, if Brookes is well and Palttvson plays up to form, Australasia's chances are distinctly good. A number of officials of ihe Tennis Association and leading players, including Olllvler, sailed by the Maheno. Patterson, speaking at a farewell, said tbev were up against it this time, hut had quite a reasnnahlo chance of retaining tbe Cup and springing a surprise upon the Americans. Brookes said ho was loth to speak opi : - mistlcally of victory, whirh miglt nave an effect on their training and cause over-con-fidence.
