ENTERTAINMENTS.
EMERY BROS.' CIRCUS. Emery Bros.' Circus, which opened at New Plymouth last night, attracted a large audience, which thoroughly enjoyed the performance, included in the bill were many wonderful animals — horseß, monkeys, and dogs—who performed almost incredible feats within the. ring. The buck-jumping ponies were probably most popular, and the steeplechase, which concluded the programme, aroused much excitement. Several clowns provided entertainment of a lighter order, and kept the audience in good spirits with a good stock of jokes. The educated hemes and ponies Bfcowed the careful training of the ringmaster, Mr. N. Webb. A clever and finished exhibition of trapeze work was given by the lady artiste, Mrs. Webb, and she showed herself to be an acrobat of no mean ability. A children's matinee has been ar-ranged-for this afternoon, and a complete change of programme is to be given to-night.
