BANNER COMPETITION. HAAVERA DEFEAT STRATFORD. The first match of the banner competition was played oil the Stratford green yesterday between teams representing .tire Haw-era and Stratford Clubs, and resulted in n win for Hawera. by 17 points. At the conclusion of the match the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea, and Mr. Foy, president ofi the. Hawera Chrtv expressed his pleasure at again meeting the. Stratford players and having such an enjoyable afternoon. He hoped that there would be more friendly inter-club matches In the future, more especially between the colts and Saturday players. Mr. Foy also congratulated the club on tire recent improvements carried out at the green, and remarked on the largo membership, particularly us there were now two clubs in'Strntford. Mr. .T. S. Lyons, president of the Stratford 01ul>, said SBratfard flayers. Were nhv'ays glad to meet friends from Hawera at any time whether In banner or friendly matches, and could always look forward to a good game with them. He"agreed with Mr. F«Jy that friendly Inter-nlub matches for colts would be a grand thing for bowling, as would also be Saturday inter-club raatclres. The Hawera players then gave three cheers for Stratford, which were heartily responded to by the Stratford team.
