DOMINION NEWS.

CREAM OR MILKf 8y Telegraph.—lTess Association. Paimerston N., Last Night. Goldingham and Beckett, Ltd., merchants, were charged in the Magistrate's Court to-day, with alleged breaches of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1808. The charges arose out of the sale of Libby's evaporated cream. When the manufacture was first introduced into 'New Zealand the Health Department's analyst stated it was not cream but milk, and it was released on condition that Smith and Co., Auckland, Libby's agent, amended the label to read "milk." It was later found on analysis that the manufacture contained artificial coloring. Expert evidence proved that the color had been added through sterilising at high temperature. The defence also showed that Ooldingham and Beckett had purchased their supplies, from Libby's direot, not through Smith and Co., and therefore knew nothing of the arrangement for the amended label. The Magistrate dismissed both-charges. EGG-PULP FROM CHINA. Wellington, La6t Night. The standing sub-committee of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association has been instructed by the Dominion executive to make a protest to the Minister of Agriculture on behalf of returned soldier poultry fanners of the country against the importation into New Zealand of Chinese egg pulp. It is contended that there is practically no cost of production of egg-pulp in China, as the eggs from which the pulp is made are collected from wild fowl. On the other hand the returned soldier poultry farmers of New Zealand do not object to the entry of egg-pulp from the Commonwealth, as in Australia a cost of production is entailed. No object-ion is raised, either, to the price of eggs in New Zealand being controlled by the Board of Trade. FIRE AT NELSON. Nelson, Last Night. A large dwelling at Port Nelson, occupied by Mr. J. R. Littlejohn, was totally destroyed by fire late this afternoon.
