TARANAKI BISHOPRIC.
A MOVE TO BE MADE. Archdeacon Mac Murray, oi Auckland, met a number of churchmen at New Plymouth last evening, and discussed with them the question of the establishment of a Taranaki Bishopric. The Archdeacon pointed out that it was necessary to raise a sum of £30,000 to <>ndow the Bishopric, and unless there was evidence of a real effort to subscribe the money it would be better were the proposal postponed for a decade. In answer to a question, the Archdeacon said that very little assistance could be expected from the Auckland diocese, as the endowments there were limited, whilst General Synod could not help very much'. Air. W. H. Skinner outlined the boundaries of the proposed diocese, the southern one being between Waverley and Waitotara, and the northern this side of Kawhia. After some discussion it was decided to promote the scheme to the utmost of the power of those present, a committee being set up to organise and collect funds, the members being Rev. Harvie, and Messrs. W. H. Skinner, S. W. Shaw, W. C. Weston, and A. R. Standish.
