The weather was hot and dusty today for the match between Victoria and South Australia. Armstrong (Victoria) won the toss and batted on a good wicket. Victoria's first innings produced 310 (Ryder 36, Lampard 47, Armstrong not out 157). Bowling analysis: Richardson, four wickets for 00 runs; Wright, 3 for 81). South-Australia, in their first innings, have lost n 0 wickets for 18, Pellew and Richardson batting. South Australia's bowling was good and the batsmen, with the exception of Armstrong, were frequently in trouble. The latter's was an innings of great mastery. He made runs all round the wicket, and gave one of the most finished displays ever j?iven in firstclass cricket.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
