RELIEF IN EUROPE.
FUNDS STILL EEQUIBED. ~ AN APPEAL TO BE MADE. By Tdlegr&Dh.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In connection with the campaign for the "Save the Children Fund" the Mayor (Mr. Luke) recently cabled Sir Jamei Allen as follows: "Making an appeal in '• Wellington province for the relief of \ distress in Europe. \» the need urgent and the administration effective?" Sir James Allen replied aa follows: "Please inform the Mayor of Wellington, in reply to his telegram of November !), that moneys are urgently required by 'The Save the Children Fluid' and the Imperial War Relief Fund. Over , £40,000 has been received from New Zealand for the former, whiieh is distributing the same through local agencies under an approved scheme as per iny telegram of November 1. The Imperial War Relief Fund was organised to combat through local distributing agencies general distress and diseases (see telegrams, etc., between the Colonial • Office and the Governor-General and the New Zealand Bed Cross Societie's since last June). . A special typhus cam- • paign will be organised provided funds are available, but only £35,000 has been received up to date for all purposes l . They estimate their administration charges at 10 per.cent., while the cost , of local agencies may amount to an additional 15 per cent.
