TRIAL BY JURY SOUGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christcluirch, Last Night. As a sequel to the recent police raid on a west end tobacconist's shop, Alfred Vivian Whitta appeared before Mr, ■McCarthy, 531., to-day on two charges: (1) That he used the premises occupied by him as a common gambling house, contrary to the Gaming Act, 1908; (2) that he carried on the business of a bookmaker. ' Cm the latter charge the accused elected to be tried by jury, and a remand was granted.
