THE STATUS OF CHAPLAINS. By Telegraph.—Press AssociationWellington, Nov. 22. At the Pres'byterian General Assembly to-day, thq Chaplain Committee reported that it had adopted the following resolution: "That while sympathising with the desire to abolish j titles in the eaae of chaplains, the com- | mittee is strongly of the opinion that | the status of chaplains as officers should be maintained with all the privileges now enjoyed. The committee fully reeogised the great changes wlridh have taken place in connection with | national defence, and the still greater I changes which may be expected, but | hopes that by prudent action the rights |of chanlains will bo maintained and their opportunities for service pieserved and increased.'' The report was adopted. CHURCH UNION. Wellington, Nov. 22. ; V.'ie proposed terms of union between I the Presbyterian and Congregational ; Churches of 'New Zealand were adopted by the Presbyterian General Assembly to-day. The proposals will be referred to a committee in consultation with a committee of the Congregational Church and thereafter be sent to the Presbyteries for consideration and report through the committee to the next General Assembly. Dr. Gihb said if the proposals went through the union would be accomplished* in three years from now.
