A CARTERTON SENSATION. DEATH OF THE VICTIM. By Telegrapn.—Press Association Carterton, Nov. 22., There was a sensational shooting afr fray in Carterton on Saturday night iij a whare of one room, 12ft. x Bft,, oci eupied by Frederick Thompson. It ap< pears that Thompson and Anthony, Rzoska, who are employed by the Wai< rarapa South Countv Council, had been together on Saturday afternoon and, about 7.30, adjourned to the whare in company with J. Rzoska (cousin), Edward Crossland and W. Spicer. In the whare Thompson and Rawka quarrelled. The latter took off bis coat to fight, and it is alleged Thompson, drew n revolver and fired pointblank at a distance of a few feet. The bullet entering Rzoska's neck on the left eide and emerged on the right. The patient was removqd to Greytown Hospital, and is m a serious condition. Thompson has bcAn arrested. The weapon was a' .455 Jvebley. Rozoska was 20 year old and Ihoinpson «2.' ~ Reports received ifrom the hospital this morning state that the condition of Rzoska is still the same, and the chances of his recovery are slight Thompson, who was'charged witTT the attempted murder of Anthony Hioska, was brought before the Justices this morning anil remanded for a week. Bail was not. asked for. Counsel for accused stated that ho wa, an ex-policeman and wished to say that be had been drinking heavily for eome time. Rozoska talked fight and, in the heat of the moment he' (accused) picked up the revolver and fired. He expressed sorrow for the act. THE VICTIM DEAD. Carterton, Last Night. Anthony Rzoska, the victim of the shooting affray at Carterton on Saturday, d.ed at the Greytown hospital at •».4» this afternoon. A preliminary inquiry will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m., and will probably adjourn to Carterton, where a full inqiury will be held on a date to be fixed.
