; RAHOTU. \ (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) I Tho school concert came off on Wednesday evening and was a great success, financially and otherwise. The chairman (Mr. Chapman) apologised for the time being so short lor the training of the children. Kvery item was encored, their rendering reflecting great credit to the teachers. The programme was as follows; Opening chorus, "Ragging Thro' The Rye," scholars- s, ,'■' "The Heart of a Rose," Miss Horo; soto and chorus, ••Redwing," Ala Kuliin and children (Ala Kahin was dressed In an Indian costume) ; song, "The Mighty Deep," Mr. Hell; song, "Puses of I'ir-ardy," jir. M. Htighson ; dance ".Milltaire," Winnie Verdon, a senior pupil: solo and chorus, "I've Lost My Heart in Maorilnnd," Miss Hiiro and Maori pupils in native costume; song, "Mickey," Miss Rowlands; song and dance, "The Beautiful Ohio." by senior girls; Eastern dance, Winhie Verdon; Maori song and dance by eight Maori children : "Cod Save Tie King," children and coir/pany. Mrs. Harrison plaved all the aceompaiiiiinents. Mr. Chapman thanked all for their help In making ilm affair so great a success The prizes were, then presented, everv child receiving a prize. A special prize given by | live School Committee was presented to Claude (ireeii, who was dux. Mrs. Harrisoi. the teacher, also gave special prizes to the most diligent children, which were won by Winnie Verdon and Ata Kahin. Myrle Chapman and Ida Fischer received jiiss •Mason's special prizes for the two best sewers amongst the girls. Supper was then handed around to .VI aul later on ihe iin.e was spent in dancing! Messrs. l'afkcr (piano) and Norris (violin) being the musicians. Quite a gloom was cast over the district when the dreadful accident to the aeroplane became known. Many residents had been in to see if, ai! d many were hoping to do so. Miss Vorrton, our hieal postmistress, is away, being relieved by Miss Keasberry. Miss Mma Morrow, our most obliging assistant, has received a promotion to New Plymouth, »lnng (he place of Miss Hilda Wright, who has resigned. Miss Morrow left for New Plymouth on Tuesday. She will be much missed here.
