Mr. Lloyd George, in the House of Commons, during the Agricultural Bill debate, made a stirring appeal for more food production. "When the harvests were good, Britain," he said, "only produces a quarter of the wheat required, and this is a temptation to our foreign enemies to attack us by adopting means by which we will be starved. Moreover, there is the question of national health. Whereas fifty years ago one-third of the population were employed on the land, only one-ninth were so employed in 1919." The Premier added that the soil of Britain wan infinitely richer than that of Germany, Denmark, or Italy, and Britain's food supplies must bo greatly increased on the lines suggested by the Selbome committee's report.—Aus.-N.Z.
