WEST END SCHOOL.
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the West End School Committee, the headmaster (Mr D. J. Evans) reported that the roll number at the end of October was 537, an increase of 14 for the month. The average attendance had been 480, the highest attendance for any one day being 507—a record for the school. Owing to overcrowding in the infant room, a class had been transferred to the gymnasium. The school children had contributed £5 5s fid to the Church Army fund, the money to be expended on Christmas dinners and presents for children whose fathers had been killed or incapacitated during the war. Mr. Medley had again generously donated £1 10s towards the purchase of special prizes. Ha also refered to the vi»it of the Board and the Department's architects to the school.
A donation of £2 10s was made to the school sports fund, it being understood that the Department subsidised on a £ for £ basis donations for organised games.
Arrangements were made in regard to the purchase of prizes. At the' same meeting memjbers of the Kawaroa Park Committee were present, and various details were decided in connection with the gala day to be held in Kawaroa' Park on December 9. Keen enthusiasm is being evinced in this function, which, it is hoped, will eclipse last year's fixture.
