THE UNION COMPANY.
P. AND 0. CONTROL RUMORS. CHANGE OP HEAD OFFICE. By Ttleiraph.—Press Association Dunedin, Last Night. Since the P. and 0. Company acquired practically the whole of the shares of the Union Steamship Company, and thereby assured a preponderating voto in its management, rumor has been busy in more directions than one. Another rumor which has had currency among a considerable section of the 'public is to the effect that sooner or later the head office of the company will be moved to Wellington, and speculations as to the probable date of the removal have appeared from time to time in the Press of the Dominion. Within the last month or two . these speculations have given place to definite statements that the change alleged to be impending had definitely been decided upon, and that it cannot bo much longer delayed. Color was lent to the statement by the knowledge that the company has been Inwily engaged lor months past in extensive alterations to its Wellington office, the extensions being, it was believed, for the purpose of accomodating'the whole of the headquarters staff at present domiciled in Dunedin. There is good reason to believe that the public impression in regard to the transfer of the head office of the Union Company to Wellington is justified, and that, the change will be made very shortly. It is understood that the intention is that the general manager and his large staff shall ere long enter into possession of the enlarged and rearranged Wellington office.
